Since 2008, Freedom From Fossil Fuels has been telling industry and governments about a simple new idea that would reduce human energy consumption by 40% or more, eliminate air pollution from transport and electricity generation, and would save a country like Britain about £800 billion per year. This idea is called Zero Waste Docked Mode (ZWDM) for vehicles, and is being systematically ignored and blocked, even though it is extremely simple and uses only readily available technology - using plug-in hybrid electric vehicles as combined heat and power plants (CHP) to produce heat for buildings and electricity to charge their own batteries and for upload to the Grid (not download).
One of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world simply said "We can't see a commercial application for this idea." This response sums up perfectly the attitudes that exist in most corporations around the world: profits are everything.
For a country like Britain, the cost avoidance of not having to build new nuclear power stations would enable hundreds of thousands of homes to be given grants covering the cost of a new vehicle and a docking station. This would create thousands of sustainable jobs. We simply cannot afford to ignore solutions like Zero Waste Docked Mode any longer. The time to act is now. Please consider telling your politicians that you want ZWDM to be implemented now.
Solving our energy crisis is not a technological problem but a cashflow and political problem, and is dependent on the corporations that control our economies having the motivation to implement changes that could be started right now. ZWDM would allow a country like Britain to avoid having to build new nuclear power stations and would enable it to closedown all its coal and gas electricity generation within 10 to 20 years without anyone having to reduce their quality of life or reduce their activities.
This is all based on simple engineering and science; few people realise that when petrol or diesel is put into the fuel tank of a car, most of it (up to 95%) is dumped into the environment as waste heat. ZWDM simply uses this waste heat, enabling heating and hot water in offices and homes to be obtained for free. Imagine not needing a heating system or having to pay £1000's every year to run it because instead you were harnessing the waste heat from your car engine (which produces more heat than you could use if you drive 10,000 miles a year).
Are you concerned about the progress (or lack of it) in technology to solve our energy crisis?
We are too.
That is why this not-for-profit organisation has been set up that will openly research and develop simple new solutions and publish them.
